Introduction: Realism + Idealism = Lesley

Hello everyone! I am Lesley (Chinese name: QIANRU FANG), come from China. Also a second-year student at the University of Westminster, discipling in Digital Media and Communication. And the reason why I named my first blog “Realism +Idealism = Lesley” is because it is also my main characteristic.

Idealism

The old street along the river, the quaint stone paved roads, the deep alleys, and the solemn platform gates seems to be the most straightforward description of Zhejiang’s water towns. As a Chinese people from Zhejiang Province. Naturally, I also possess the traits bestowed upon me by my hometown.

When I was a five-year-old child, perhaps due to the subtle influence of my parents, I had a strong interest in Chinese poetry and cultures. Fortunately, Chinese poetry has also accompanied me until now. Among them, the poet I admire the most is QIJI XIN. From his poetry, I feel the interweaving of iron blood and poetic life of an ancient person. In the process of reading these poems, they enriched my spiritual world and even my soul. And my favorite sentence is “一笑出门去,千里落花风”, it can be translated as “A smile out of the door, a thousand miles away the wind blew the flowers fall.”

And after being influenced by these cultures, I also have a clear goal: to be an excellent Chinese writer. Similarly, this is also the reason why I chose to discipline in Digital Media and Communication. I hope to leverage the power of the media to make my works visible to more people. My philosophy is that idealistic youth will never be intimidated by reality, and from then on, flowers will be given to themselves, riding horses and stepping on flowers towards freedom. I hope everyone has a youthful heart and the power to change the world.

My hobbies

In addition to liking ancient poetry, I also have some other hobbies, such as reading, drawing, playing the piano, drinking tea, and so on. When doing these things, I can enjoy my own alone time very well. Of course, this does not mean that I reject making friends. When I was in China, I would go out to dinner with my good friends every month, play murder mystery games, and so on. I also look forward to making friends in the UK.

Realism

Of course, the real world is different from the ideals of romanticism, as it requires strategy, discipline, and toughness. Writing is not just about inspiration, I need to constantly learn to resonate with people today, and in the process, I should also accept criticism and suggestions. Therefore, although my goal is to create meaningful works, I must also adapt to this cruel modern media world.

In my daily academic life, although I may seem a bit reserved, I believe I have strong leadership skills. As an INTJ (From MBTI Test), my greatest expertise lies in planning and execution. I enjoy setting long-term goals and working towards them further. I believe this will be helpful for our future cooperation.

However, it must be mentioned that this is my first year in the UK, and I am well aware that my language skills are not as strong as I imagined. Sometimes I encounter some obstacles when communicating with classmates, and I may need some time to adapt to my study and life in the UK. I know that effective communication is essential in both academic and professional life, and this is also where I need to improve. Meanwhile, although I need some time to adapt, I am committed to developing my language skills and becoming more comfortable in social interactions so that I can be better connect with others and achieve my goals.

The end……

It is a great honor to be classmates with you. If you are willing, maybe we can discuss different cultures from different countries with each other. So here is my first blog! (o^^o)
